Two Pakistan Army soldiers among four were martyred as Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday.

According to a statement released by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), "two Pakistan Army soldiers embraced martyrdom at Nakiyal Sector in exchange of fire while targeting Indian posts undertaking firing on civilian population." "Martyrs include Havaldar Abdur Rub and Naik Khuram," the statement added.

"Reports of casualties of Indian troops and damage to post due to effective response by Pakistan Army," it concluded.

Earlier, the ISPR had said Indian forces targeted civilian population in Tattapani and Jandrot sectors along LoC, which resulted in the martyrdom of two civilians.

The injured were shifted to a hospital. The statement added that the armed forces, including Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and Pakistan Navy remain on alert given the prevailing situation.

The crisis that started in the wake of Pulwama attack, which claimed lives of more than 40 Indian military troops, escalated when India intruded Pakistan’s airspace and claimed that it had struck down Jaish-e-Muhammad hideout- a claim that was vehemently denied by Pakistan. Following this, Pakistan retaliated and shot down two Indian aircraft that had crossed the Line of Control (LoC) and captured Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

However, Pakistan returned Varthaman to India via Wagha Border in hopes of de-escalating tensions between the two countries.

Amid the war cry, people of both countries have urged their governments to show restraint in order to maintain peace in the region.
