Protests Held After Father Murders Transgender Daughter

Protests Held After Father Murders Transgender Daughter
The transgender community in Pakistan called for protests after a 19 year old transgender woman was found murdered. Father has been arrested for the murder.

Maya, the victim, had left home and was living in Peshawar with a group of transgender individuals called the "Meena Group". Her father attempted to bring her home, after which she approached the police and stated that her life is in danger. The police allowed her father to take her home, after he assured them that she would not be harmed. Hours later her body was discovered near a river bank in Nowshera, riddled with bullets.

Maya's body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy and identification. According to local police, Mayas father was unhappy with her choice to live as a transgender woman, and may have orchestrated her return and subsequent murder.
