Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has asked Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) to stop 'taking pride' on telecasting a Turkish drama series Diriliş: Ertuğrul.

The minister took to twitter to express his opinion on the screening of Ertuğrul on national television. He said that the import of foreign dramas will ‘ruin’ the local Pakistani film and drama industry.

"Surprised on @PTVHomeOfficial taking pride on other countries productions, you guys must focus on Pak productions otherwise foreign dramas will ruin Pak productions, it’s always cheap to import foreign dramas but this will have devastating long term effect on our own programming," he tweeted.

The globally acclaimed Turkish TV series Diriliş: Ertuğrul has amassed a massive fan following in Pakistan, following the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan to broadcast the Turkish drama on PTV so that the youth could learn ‘Islamic culture’.

Last month, Khalil Ur Rehman, the writer of super hit drama series Meray Paas Tum Ho, said that he has been working on a show similar to the Turkish drama, Ertugrul. In an interview with a local TV channel, the writer shared that he had already spoken to Humayun Saeed and the duo will start the work soon.
