AlJazeera reports that at least ten people have been killed while a dozen others were sent to the hospital, according to Afghan interior ministry.
AlJazeera further quoted a police official Mohammad Karim, who said a car bomb exploded outside a defence ministry building. The blast was followed by a gun attack as Afghan Interior Ministry stated.
"Gunmen have entered a building and they are clashing with the Afghan forces after the powerful blast," interior ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi told.
The area under attack is home to various military and government buildings including Afghan Football Federation and Afghanistan Cricket Board.
As per latest reports, no group has accepted the responsibility for the attack. However, groups such as the Afghan Taliban and ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and Levant) are active in the country.
