Sindh Govt Had Approved Filing Of Case Against MNA Ali Wazir

The Sindh government of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) had approved the filing of a case against incarcerated Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM)-linked MNA Ali Wazir, it has emerged.

Express Tribune reported that the investigating officer presented the minutes of the Sindh Cabinet meeting that was held on November 21, 2019 in Anti-Terrorism Court No. 12. After the proceeding of the meeting were released, it came to light that Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani suggested in the meeting that the Prosecutor General should be consulted on whether to approve the registration of the case against Ali Wazir or not.

According to the minutes of the meeting, when the matter was referred to the prosecutor, he suggested that the cabinet should approve the registration of the case against the lawmaker.
Moreover, the forensic report presented in the court also concluded that the visual footage of Ali Wazir's speech delivered (based on which the complaint was lodged) in Karachi on December 6, 2020 is authentic. But the investigating officer said that they do not have the required software which is why it is not possible to confirm if the audio in this video is accurate or not.

The next hearing in the case is set for February 3. According to the Prosecutor General, Ali Wazir will be indicted on February 3. However, Ali Wazir's lawyer has expressed hope that the incarcerated MNA would be granted bail on February 3.

A case has also been registered against Ali Wazir in Bannu. Bannu police have written to the Sindh government that if Ali Wazir's bail application in the Karachi case is granted, he should be handed over to Bannu police.

Ali Wazir is a former member of the National Assembly elected from the tribal areas. He is an active leader of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement and is associated with the leftist movement in Pakistan. A case was registered against him for holding an illegal rally in Karachi on December 6 and making provocative speeches. He was arrested in the second week of December in Peshawar and flown to Karachi by a special plane, where he is kept in Central Jail.
