Mashal Khan’s Father Iqbal Lala, Academic Ammar Ali Jan Among Those Nominated In FIR Against Students' March

Authorities in Lahore have registered a case against those perceived to be organizers and supporters of the #StudentsSolidarityMarch in that city. The charges cited by the police in this case include nuisance, sedition and the Punjab Sound Systems Regulation Act.

Those named in the First Investigation Report (FIR) include:

• Dr. Ammar Ali Jan (academic and historian)


• Farooq Tariq (left-wing leader)

• Alamgir Wazir (activist and nephew of parliamentarian Ali Wazir)


• Iqbal Lala (the father of slain student Mashal Khan)


• Muhammad Shabbir


• Kamil Khan

This FIR has surfaced in the wake of the disappearance on Saturday late afternoon of Alamgir Wazir. While his whereabouts are still not known, social media commentators are linking it to his comments about Pakistan's marginalized regions at the student-led event in Lahore.



Human rights defenders and legal experts have taken to social media to condemn this development, seeing it as a repressive act on the part of authorities.
