Sindh’s second-largest city Hyderabad has become the country’s only city with 126 confirmed coronavirus cases that were locally transmitted. Out of these 126 cases, 94 are of Tableeghi Jamaat members who attended the Raiwind Tableeghi Ijtema last month.

The Express Tribune reported that the sudden spiraling of cases from seven to 128, in just two days, was followed by the mass tests of Tableeghi Jamaat members at Hyderabad’s Noor mosque on Sunday. A week before the mass testing, the mosque with around 200 people was sealed and tuned into a quarantine facility.

According to the health department officials, members of Tableeghi Jamaat, until then, had been roaming freely in various areas of Hyderabad Division. As many as 94 persons among them were found to have contracted the coronavirus. All the infected and suspected patients staying at the mosque were shifted to Labour Colony apartments, Rajputana Hospital and Sindh Government Hospital, Kohsar on Monday.

Moreover, a bank located near the Hyderabad Press Club was also sealed as one of its staff members tested positive for COVID-19. A journalist Aftab Memon, while talking about the aforementioned case told the newspaper, “It is one of the main branches in the city, now other staff members at the branch and those who had accounts in the branch are also cautious of their health.”

Meanwhile, at least 15 Tableeghi Jamaat members who were quarantined at a hostel of University of Sindh, Jamshoro have been allowed to go back to their homes after testing negative for coronavirus.

The provincial health authorities have confirmed the successful recovery of 49 patients. However, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases has risen to 676 in Sindh, 293 of which were transmitted locally.
